Mobile Sauna FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions – Mobile Saunas
General Mobile Sauna Questions
1. What is a mobile sauna?
Our mobile sauna's are a fully insulated, high end sauna built directly onto a road legal trailer. This allows you to take a premium wellness experience anywhere whether it is for your private garden, corporate events, or a mobile beachside business. Each of our units is handcrafted in County Galway, specifically designed to handle the unpredictable Irish weather.
2. Do I need a special licence to tow a mobile sauna in Ireland?
In many cases, if your towing vehicle and the trailer's total weight fall within standard legal limits, a regular car licence (B category) may be sufficient. Our box trailer saunas are engineered with standard towing guidelines in mind. However, because licensing depends entirely on your specific vehicle and gross train weight, we always advise checking official RSA (Road Safety Authority) guidelines.
3. Can I start a commercial business with a mobile sauna?
Absolutely. Mobile saunas are one of the fastest growing trends in Ireland's outdoor wellness market. Operators across the country have successfully set up at beaches, piers, lakesides, festivals, sports clubs, and glamping sites. They offer an excellent business opportunity with low active overheads.
4. Are your saunas actually made in Ireland?
Yes, proudly. Every single Irish Sauna Company model is handcrafted at our workshop in County Galway by a dedicated husband and wife team with over 20 years of professional joinery experience. We focus on authentic Irish craftsmanship, reliable regional sourcing, and durable materials instead of cheap imports.
5. Are your mobile saunas insulated for the winter?
Yes. Our custom box style trailers feature robust insulation and weather resistant sealing designed to withstand heavy Irish rain, high winds, and damp coastal air. They are built to retain heat efficiently, making them cost effective and eco friendly to run year round.
Technical Specs & Customization
6. What type of sauna heater do you use?
We offer two primary options depending on your location and lifestyle:
-
Traditional Wood-Burning Stoves: Ideal for off grid locations, beaches, and an authentic, crackling fire atmosphere.
-
Electric Sauna Heaters: Popular for fixed locations, hotels, and residential backyards where consistent power is accessible.
7. How long does it take for the sauna to heat up?
Depending on the specific model, outdoor temperatures, and your choice of heater, our saunas typically heat to running temp in about 25 to 40 minutes.
8. Can I customise my mobile sauna?
Yes. Because we build to order, no two units are exactly the same. We can discuss custom interior layouts, specialized timber types, custom lighting setups, and seating configurations to match your personal taste or commercial brand identity.

9. How much does a custom mobile sauna cost?
Because each build is unique and tailored to individual specifications, we do not offer flat rate online pricing. Total costs depend on the size, timber choice, and optional upgrades you select. We provide comprehensive, tailored quotes following a personal consultation.
Logistics, Maintenance & Planning
10. Do I need planning permission for a mobile sauna in Ireland?
Generally speaking, because our mobile units are built on road legal chassis, they are typically classified as temporary structures. In many standard scenarios, this means they do not require the formal planning permission associated with permanent buildings. However, site specific rules, local council bylaws, or protected coastal zones can vary. We always recommend contacting your local authority to discuss your specific location.
11. What kind of insurance is required for a sauna business?
For commercial operators, public liability insurance is standard practice. Many Irish insurance brokers now offer tailored policies specifically for mobile wellness businesses. Because our builds are constructed on certified chassis types, brokers typically find them straightforward to list under commercial trailer or asset policies. We recommend consulting an independent insurance broker for exact guidance.
12. Is an ISC build suited for Atlantic coastal conditions?
Our saunas are specifically engineered with the rugged Irish coast in mind. We treat our builds with the premium Tikkurila coating system and incorporate our specialized ISC Flowbase™ design. This system is engineered to help minimize moisture entrapment and resist salt-air wear, helping protect your investment in harsh coastal environments.
13. How do I maintain and clean the sauna?
General maintenance is incredibly straightforward. For standard use, we recommend wiping down benches after a session, opening vents to allow proper airflow, and treating the exterior wood annually. For high-traffic commercial use, we recommend using removable floor mats and natural, sauna-safe antibacterial solutions. We provide a helpful care overview with our builds to get you started.
Delivery & The Buying Process
14. Do you deliver across Ireland?
While delivery options can be arranged throughout Ireland, we highly recommend arranging a collection from our County Galway workshop. This allows you to walk around the unit with us, complete a final joint viewing, and ensure you are perfectly comfortable with the setup before hitting the road.
15. Can I view the saunas in person before making a decision?
We highly encourage you to "touch the grain" and see the quality of our craftsmanship for yourself before making an investment.
We host private, individual appointments at our original Galway workshop.
Let's Discuss Your Project
We do not sell our saunas through an online shopping cart because we believe a premium investment deserves a personal touch. Whether you want a private backyard retreat or are launching a new seaside business, we want to hear from you.
